Silver Halide Studios was founded in August 2019 with a vision to provide a great film processing experience with a focus on community-based events. In June 2021, we opened our shop in the heart of Mount Lawley and today, the lab is operated by Aimee, Alex and some of their close friends.

With multiple drop box locations across Western Australia and convenient mail-in and in-store services, we strive to make film processing easily accessible to all. Using industry-standard processors and scanners, we deliver high-quality results for photographers at every level.

Our team is committed to supporting and upskilling local creatives. We love to collaborate with local businesses who share our mission, and regularly host workshops, socials and exhibitions for all to come together, crafted for the budding film enthusiast and seasoned expert alike.

A Focus on Sustainability

A Focus on Sustainability

In the film lab industry, significant waste is unfortunately common post-processing. Our team prioritizes sustainability and has initiated several in-house projects to address this issue.

To manage chemical waste, we utilize a Silver reclamation tank in our lab. This system effectively filters out silver, leaving a liquid that is safe for our waterways. The reclaimed silver is then refined and transformed into unique handmade jewelry. Imagine wearing a ring crafted from the silver extracted from hundreds of film rolls!

Additionally, we are committed to reusing film metal and plastic canisters by respooling film into them. These repurposed canisters form the basis of our own Silver Halide Studios film range. When you purchase one of these films, we offer a 20% discount on development and scanning services, encouraging customers to return the canisters to us for reuse, creating a sustainable cycle.
